Jojo is a 42-year-old New Zealand citizen who has been living in Australia since 2005. Jojo was referred to the Hume Team by VincentCare IAP on 3 August 2026 for case management due to experiencing homelessness. At referral, Jojo had been sleeping rough in a tent in one of the parks in Melbourne for almost a year and had no access to consistent income like Centrelink. He was dependent on community food pantries and leisure centers for his daily living while picking up seasonal construction jobs here and there.
The Hume Team worked alongside Jojo to identify and address key barriers to achieving housing stability. This included supporting him to attend Centrelink and explore his eligibility for financial assistance, resulting in Jojo successfully obtaining JobSeeker Payment. The team also supported Jojo with his housing application and ongoing advocacy throughout the housing process.
Within approximately one month of engagement, Jojo successfully secured long-term accommodation. He signed his lease on 9 September 2026 and moved into his new home the same day.
Jojo’s journey demonstrates the impact of person-centered, practical and collaborative case management, supporting a client to move from rough sleeping and financial insecurity to stable housing and an income within a short period.
