The Youth and Family team started working with Shaina (19yrs old) and her 2yr old as they were in a rental property which was waiting to be demolished. She was paying 80% of her income towards rent in cash with no formal tenancy agreement or rights. Shaina had applied for dozens of private rentals and was not accepted to any.
Over the following months the youth and family team worked with the family on multiple case plan goals, along with working towards securing affordable long-term housing. Through relationship building and utilising established networks the team were about to secure Shaina a community housing property close to their Childcare which is an important part of the family's stability.
“The support provided in helping me secure a home has been more than great. Knowing that myself and my child have a stable place to relax and settle in has lifted such a weight from my shoulders and I finally feel like we have security we need to thrive. Not only with housing, but ensuring we have the essentials has made the transition so much smoother.
It's a huge relief to know that I don't have to worry about how to provide the basics. I am so grateful for the care the youth and family team has put into making sure myself and my family are set up for success. Having this foundation gives us a fresh start, and I honestly don't think we could have reached this point of stability without them and the supports given.”
