Amal, her husband Asan and their 5 young children were referred to MOSS in 2012 for homelessness support. The family were couch-surfing with friends, before securing a transitional property through VincentCare. The property was a 5-bedroom large home however over the years required extensive works due to its age, and level of disrepair.
The Hume team continued to support the family for the next 14 years. We have witnessed their children grow into wonderful independent young adults. The family who are well regarded in the community also extended their kindness and warmth to foster another 3 children from a similar cultural background. They have bought such joy to this already large family.
In August 2026, the family finally received exciting news that a suitable large home was available through Office of Housing. The family had had been approved on the public housing waitlist since 2010. Amal and her family were so excited. On our last closing visit Amal advised that she was thrilled to have her own wardrobe to hang all her clothes and that she had lived out of suitcases for so long due to lack of space. And no wardrobes in the transitional housing property.
Amal was pleased that the family have made new connections in the area and that she was invited to the local "What's App" group. The children have made connections in the street and have new playmates. This is something that the family had not previously experienced in their transitional property.
At last the family feel like they are at home. What a great outcome for a deserving family after a 16 year wait.
